Three More Winners Round Out Unticketing Contest

August 14, 2023: The final set of winners in this summer’s Unticketing contest include two drivers from Mason City and one from Clear Lake. All summer long, Clear Lake and Mason City police officers and Cerro Gordo deputy sheriffs have been watching for drivers who are doing the right thing: observing speed limits, using their turn signals properly, making complete stops at intersections, wearing their seat belts, and more. Since Memorial Day, they have “caught” more than 500 people driving safely and legally. Every two weeks, the license plate numbers for these good drivers have been compared with people who entered the Unticketing contest, and each match won a prize donated by a Cerro Gordo County business.

The latest winners include a Clear Lake couple who own a silver SUV with a vanity plate, observed driving at proper speed on North Eighth Street. They won a $20 gift card from Three on the Tree bakery-café in Mason City. A second $20 Three on the Tree gift card was awarded to a Mason City resident whose SUV plate begins with DU. In addition, a Mason City resident who drives a black auto with a plate that begins in IL will enjoy a $10 Cabin Coffee gift card.

A total of six businesses donated prizes for the contest: AAA Iowa (roadside troubleshooting kits), Advance Auto of Mason City (big bucket of car washing supplies), Cabin Coffee (gift cards), Casey’s (gift card), Kwik Star (gift cards), and Three on the Tree (gift cards). In all, 422 drivers entered 543 vehicles for their chances to win.

Clear Lake Interim Police Chief Mike Colby, Mason City Police Chief Jeff Brinkley, and Cerro Gordo Sheriff Kevin Pals have extended their thanks to the prize donors, contest entrants, and everyone who drives safely and legally. Because the fact is: they are all winners!

New Unticketing Winners Announced – Enter by August 11 for A Chance to Win

This summer, officers and deputies from the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office, Clear Lake Police Department, and Mason City Police Department have been Unticketing local drivers. The contest gives people who drive safely and legally a chance to win prizes donated by area businesses. When a traffic  enforcement officer notices a safe driver, they record the license plate number. If that number matches someone who has signed up for the Unticketing contest, their vehicle is entered in the prize drawing.

The latest winners include a Clear Lake couple who drive a grey pickup, who won a $20 gift card from Three on the Tree café and bakery for wearing their seatbelts. For observing the speed limit on Tenth Avenue North, the driver of a blue auto with a license plate starting in MW won a roadside troubleshooting kit donated by AAA Iowa. In addition, a Clear Lake resident whose pickup plate begins with BR won a $10 Cabin Coffee gift card for observing the speed limit on North Lake Street.

With the Clear Lake Car Cruise just a few days away, officers and deputies from all three agencies will be especially watchful for people who are driving safely and legally. Anyone who registers their vehicle by 5:00 PM on Friday, August 11 will have a chance to win the final drawing to be held on Monday, August 14.  To sign up, follow this link to enter your license plate numbers. Three Clear Lake Residents Unticketed on July 17

Officers and deputies at the Clear Lake Police Department, Mason City Police Department, and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office are on the lookout for safe drivers. When a license plate number they record matches someone who has signed up for the Unticketing contest, that vehicle is entered in the prize drawing.

While the July 3 drawing resulted in wins for three Mason City residents, the latest drawing on July 17 resulted in wins for three from Clear Lake. Obeying the speed limit on East Lake Street near McIntosh Road came clean for the driver of a maroon SUV, who won a large set of car washing supplies donated by Advance Auto Parts of Mason City. In addition, a Clear Lake driver with a silver/grey SUV won a $20 gift card from Three on the Tree café and bakery, while a Clear Lake driver whose van license plate begins in FA won a $10 gift card donated by Cabin Coffee.

So far, more than 400 drivers have entered over 500 vehicles in the Unticketing contest. For your chance  to win, fill out the sign-up form to enter your license plate numbers. Sometimes it’s the little things that count. Slowing down—even by just 3 mph—can give you more time to brake in case of an unexpected driving situation. Those few extra seconds of braking multiply to make a substantial reduction in speed and crash energy if an impact occurs. That’s a winner for coming out of a crash in good shape.

See the difference: slowing down from 40 mph to 37 mph (65 km/h to 60 km/h).

July 3, 2023: Three Mason City Residents are Unticketing Winners

Unticketing is a joint effort of the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office, Clear Lake Police Department and Mason City Police Department, giving people who drive safely and legally a chance to win prizes donated by area businesses. When an officer or deputy assigned to traffic enforcement notices a safe driver, they record the license plate number. If the number matches someone who has signed up for the Unticketing contest, that vehicle is entered in the prize drawing.

All three of this week’s winners are Mason City residents. The driver of a black auto whose license plate begins with the letters GH won a $25 Kwik-Star gift card, as did the driver of a silver auto with a plate that starts with KH. In addition, the driver of a blue SUV with a plate that begins with the letters MJ won a $20 Cabin Coffee gift card.

Did you know that 93% of Iowa drivers wear their seatbelts? Proper seatbelt use is one of several good driving habits that have been observed in the Unticketing contest. Others include observing speed limits, obeying stop signs, making full stops, and proper turn signal use, to name a few.

So far, more than 350 drivers have entered over 480 vehicles in the Unticketing contest. The contest continues through August 7, so there are more chances to win.
